Accident Victim Transferred Despite Blizzard Rabbi Zalman Liberow, a Chabad shaliach originally from Flatbush, was badly injured in a tragic accident in Pittsburgh which took the life of his young son. He was to be transferred by ambulance from UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA to a rehabilitation center in Brooklyn, NY, when a raging blizzard paralyzed the entire area. The icy roads were much too treacherous to be able to travel 300 miles. The transfer was canceled, and the patient’s family was devastated. It seemed as if their beloved father would be stranded in Pittsburgh for at lease another few days. Bikur Cholim of Crown Heights, an organization that was involved with helping the family, immediately contacted VitalOne. Within an hour, a light size jet was en route to Pittsburgh to pick up Rabbi Liberow. VitalOne secured an air ambulance with all capabilities of an ICU on board for the trip, making the 35 minute flight safer and more comfortable than a 7 hour drive could ever have been.Within 4 hours of the initial phone call to VitalOne, Rabbi Liberow had safely landed in Teeterboro airport, where members of Crown Heights Hatzalah and the necessary team of medics met the plane and took over the last leg of the trip. They drove him to the Haym Solomon Nursing and Rehabilitation center in Brooklyn where he will continue his treatment and be reunited with his family and congregation.A grateful family member said: “Rabbi Leider’s assistance has been, and continues to be, incredible."
